Distributed Social Networking?

Here's a very interesting distributed social network concept. It seems hold a lot of answers in today's world of Facebook, Twitter, and even Buzz all becoming increasingly grabby in terms of data acquisition and redistribution. They certainly have their work cut out for them given the current adoption of already established products. It's certainly a noble cause but will traction be too difficult given the high entry cost, in terms of set-up. They are offering a turnkey solution but then the cost becomes monetary. Part of the reason for the success of services like Facebook is their ubiquity. It's so "in-your-face" that one cannot help but use it. I wish them the best of luck.

Check out http://www.joindiaspora.com/ for more details. I supported their efforts and it appears an increasing number of folks have, as well.
